New World Symphony
Percussion Fellowship

The New World Symphony (NWS) announces auditions for a Percussion Fellowship beginning September 2026. Founded in 1987 by Michael Tilson Thomas and led by Artistic Director Stéphane Denève, NWS offers a three-year fellowship combining orchestral performance, professional training, leadership development, and community engagement in Miami Beach.
After video review, selected musicians will be invited to a live final audition in Miami on April 23, 2026. Results will be emailed by March 20, 2026. Finalists will perform from the complete repertoire list (see nws.edu) and participate in an interview. NWS does not provide excerpts.
Pre-Screening Repertoire (Video Round):
• Solo of applicant’s choice (contrasting styles encouraged)
• Snare Drum – Prokofiev: Lieutenant Kijé (Birth of Kijé)
• Xylophone – Gershwin: Porgy and Bess (Overture)
• Glockenspiel – Dukas: The Sorcerer’s Apprentice
• Tambourine – Rimsky-Korsakov: Capriccio Espagnol
Eligibility:
Applicants must be enrolled in or have completed a degree program. A bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) is required before beginning the fellowship. Doctoral students must have completed residency. Transcripts of the most recent degree are required upon acceptance. You do not need a music degree to apply.
Benefits include:
$640/week stipend (35 weeks), fully furnished private apartment, paid audition leave, visiting artist masterclasses, professional development funding, leadership training (BLUE program), community engagement opportunities, and F-1 visa sponsorship.
