*Arthur Gleghorn's thinned wood Carte.(1906 -1980) He was a member of the London Philharmonic under Thomas Beecham in the 1930's and then principal of the Philharmonia on its formation in 1945. Moving to Los Angeles in 1948, he joined the MGM staff orchestra as principal flute in 1950 and was principal at the Hollywood Bowl for over 20 years. From 1960 he free-lanced, playing first flute on most movies and record dates until he retired in 1973. Stravinsky described him as the best musician he had ever heard..Recordings attest to his brilliance.
