Percussion Tutor
Sheffield Music Academy is a Centre for Advanced Training funded by the Department of Education’s Music and Dance Scheme.
Each Saturday, we inspire and support musicians aged 4-19 through 1:1 teaching, ensembles, theory classes, and more – enabling young people to become well rounded and experienced musicians. We are dedicated to promoting and developing rare breeds and provide young people with the equipment to explore rare breed instruments.
We are looking for an exceptional, inspiring, and highly motivated Percussion Teacher to join and contribute to our growing community. If you're enthusiastic about nurturing young people’s musical development, we'd love to hear from you.
The post is subject to successful references and an enhanced DBS check.
About the Role:
SMA operates over 30 Saturdays of the academic year (during term time) from Birkdale Senior School, S10 3DE. Concerts take place outside the normal teaching timetable, and staff are expected to attend in order to support their ensembles and all SMA young people.
You will deliver engaging percussion tuition in a variety of settings including:
- 1:1 lessons
- Small group and ensemble teaching
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspiring young people to fulfil their potential through rewarding and engaging learning.
- Confidently introducing beginners to percussion and supporting their early musical development.
- Supporting small ensembles by encouraging students, offering help as required, and ensuring groups remain focused and engaged.
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment to encourage young musicians to take up percussion study.
- Availability to work 30 Saturdays per academic year in Sheffield.
- Availability to support SMA concerts where required.
