The instrument has an 'SW' logo on the back and is signed and dated 'no.3' on the inside. The double bass is of a dark brown spirit varnish and has C string extension. The back, neck, ribs and extension are made of European Maple and the front is made of European Spruce. Also has an adjustable bridge. After playing this bass for many of my happiest years, I can say that this instrument packs a warm and beautiful punch. The larger bottom end enables the sound to carry like no other I've heard before. When I say this instrument is special, it is only one of few in the world and has been made with love by Sam who is a true master of the craft and a dear friend of mine. According to the label, it is an instrument from the renowned Neuner&Hornsteiner workshop, dating from 1905 and in its original condition (solid-wood construction, arched back, beautiful original veneer). The instrument has been completely overhauled (opened up, cleaned, new neck and ebony fingerboard/nut, bridge, and tailpiece). It was then optimally adjusted for playability and tone by my bass doctor. The result is an instrument that is very comfortable to play (D-scale 104.5 cm, body 109 cm, upper/lower curve 49 cm/63 cm), which has plenty of power and surprising depth for its size.
