Below is a recent musical evaluation by Mr. Ronald Lowry, principal cellist of the Boston Pops Orchestra and the Boston Ballet.

"“The lion’s head cello has a beautiful warm, full, and surprisingly strong tone. I think it would be of great help to professionals and to aspiring young artists. It is responsive in all dynamic ranges and offers potential of many varied colors. I enjoy playing it very much!" -- and has said he would like to borrow it occasionally!
The cello is fitted with new high-quality metal strings, has a summer and winter bridge.
The instrument has a particularly sweet upper register, to my ears at least. I haven't the space to accommodate a second cello. This is a great quality cello for a beginner or intermediate player. It have had various things done since purchase. Lowering of action, readjusting of sound post. Had it serviced at stringers, London in, I think autumn, 2021. I have fitted Larson professional stings with a magnacore A string as I was seeking a particular warmth from the upper strings. All in I invested a lot in the instrument.

I am listing this as a full outfit. Cello, bow, rosin, and foldable soft case for £500. No offers, please. This is a very reasonable price for a quality instrument. Quite happy for you to come and see and play it. I am based in Wimbledon a few minutes from the overground and 10-15 minutes walk from south Wimbledon tube station.

National Strings Courses

NATIONAL STRINGS SUMMER COURSES 2026 - CLIFTON COLLEGE, BRISTOL, 20-25th August

Orange-brown varnish in color on a golden ground, slightly antiqued. The back is made from two pieces pf mapke with medium flame, and the top is made from two pieces of spruce with medium width grain.
It is a cello with a huge sound but not strident. The A string sound is specially powerfull but wide. It is very well equilibrated in the four strings, there is not any of them particularly better or worst that the others. It has a lot of resonance, in forte as in piano, but it is also very clear when playing fast. The tone is very nice, specially in piano and mezzoforte, but it doesn’t lose it on forte. Even when playing piano, the sound does not disappear, but travels through all the hall.

UK International Music Competition

Open to all instruments, vocalists, composers, and conductors.
