After Alessandro Gagliani's death in 1729, he brought two violins back to Prague; after his own death in 1748, they were bequeathed to the church, as documented in his will. Only one survives. The violin is in excellent condition, with past repairs skillfully executed. It bears all hallmarks of the Neapolitan school and Gagliani's craftsmanship: golden-orange varnish and characteristic scroll carving. Its tone is typically Italian — warm, brilliant, expressive and pure. The label reads "Josephus Joachimus Edlinger, Naples, anno fecit 1736."
