It is aimed at young pianists in France and beyond. The next competition will take place at the Théâtre des Jacobins in Dinan in April 2027.
The presence, in the heritage collection of the City of Dinan of the collection of musical manuscripts and scores of Henri Kowalski (1841-1916), a virtuoso pianist, prolific composer and great traveler who unleashed, in all latitudes, the enthusiasm of the public with his talent and charisma, is at the origin of the creation of this competition.
Its aim is to draw the attention of young pianists to the personality and work of Henri Kowalski, who had Chopin and Liszt as his role models, placed romantic music at the heart of his programs and ardently defended French music from the second half of the 19th century.
