Orange-brown varnish in color on a golden ground, slightly antiqued. The back is made from two pieces pf mapke with medium flame, and the top is made from two pieces of spruce with medium width grain.
It is a cello with a huge sound but not strident. The A string sound is specially powerfull but wide. It is very well equilibrated in the four strings, there is not any of them particularly better or worst that the others. It has a lot of resonance, in forte as in piano, but it is also very clear when playing fast. The tone is very nice, specially in piano and mezzoforte, but it doesn’t lose it on forte. Even when playing piano, the sound does not disappear, but travels through all the hall.

UK International Music Competition

Open to all instruments, vocalists, composers, and conductors.

Attention : the bow has a slice and the head is not original ! The head has been replaced and made by Norbert Seifert at least 20 years ago. It has been incredibly well made, we can’t even see the line of the 2 pieces of wood. The match is perfect and the head copy is very well done too.
I played on many different Sartorys and I can tell that the bow has all the characteristics of what we expect with this maker. Velvet and extreme quality sound. Perfect articulation never agressive. Great feeling of legato with this stick which is quite flexible.

It’s called Sakura model from the maker because of the Tudor rose engraved on the frog and the fact he uses the most beautiful wood for this special collection.
This bow is made in a very beautiful flamed pernambuco wood of the first quality. It has a quite flexible stick which makes a very broad and quality sound. Articulation is very precise and very well balanced.

Mächler (2024) - Matteo Goffriller Model

This cello was made by Urs W. Mächler in 2024. It is based on the Matteo Goffriller model, inspired by the instrument used by Gautier Capuçon. The design reflects the traditional Venetian tonal concept while incorporating modern precision in craftsmanship and playability.

The instrument has a body length of 752 mm and a string length of 690 mm (nut to bridge), offering a comfortable playing experience without sacrificing resonance or projection.

It features a carefully selected spruce top and a highly figured two-piece maple back. The varnish is a red-brown finish over a golden ground, applied in a subtly antiqued style.

This cello delivers a powerful, deep, and richly colored tone suitable for professional performance settings. The relatively shorter string length enhances ease of playing, making it particularly comfortable for extended performance and advanced study.
