Orchestration | Juilliard Extension
27 Jan - 30 Apr, 2026
Orchestration teaches composers the skills of writing for orchestral instruments, structured with weekly interactive activities including live demonstrations, facilitated discussions with guest presenters, group score study, and readings of composition projects by Juilliard students. Students compose for every instrument in the orchestra across both semesters, exploring strings, harp, and percussion during the fall semester, then winds and brass during the spring semester. Familiarity with music notation software, such as Sibelius, Dorico, or Finale is recommended for this course.
This is a yearlong course. Students may join in either fall or spring; however, spring placements are contingent on midyear vacancies.
