Lionel Karl Hepplewhite, English, 1987

Beautiful handmade cello by L K Hepplewhite of Malvern, Worcestershire, a descendant of the famous Hepplewhite furniture makers. It has a rare single piece back and is made from selected Bosnian spruce with highly figured maple ribs and back.This instrument currently has Larsen soloist strings but was originally strung with Jarger Medium.

It has been carefully looked after and loved during its life by one lady owner, who was principal cellist in Chandos Symphony Orchestra for 25 years.

This cello would suit a young soloist / orchestral section leader and deserves to have a player of that calibre to own it. It can be seen and played in the owner's home in Worcester, UK..

Certification: In 1991 it was valued at £9,000 and subsequently in 1998 it was valued at £10,000. This would translate to a value, purely considering inflation, of £24,500 today.
