Substitute Chorus Master to The Royal Swedish Opera

Content of the work
The Royal Swedish Opera is seeking to fill the substitute position of Chorus Master to lead the 54 singers of the Royal Swedish Opera Chorus. The Chorus Master reports to the Opera Director and has direct responsibility for the chorus’s artistic activities and development. The Chorus Master manages learning and directs rehearsals in collaboration with the Assistant Chorus Masters. The Chorus Master is responsible for the overall quality of the chorus and its artistic development, both as a group and for individual singers. The Chorus Master and the Chorus Manager jointly plan the chorus’ activities, with the Chorus Master being responsible for the artistic content and the Chorus Manager having an administrative function. The Chorus Master actively promotes internal as well as external collaborations, including contacts with other organizations within and outside of Sweden, other opera houses, and Opera Europa.
Qualifications
The Chorus Master must show a high degree of musical competence and be well acquainted with opera genres and repertoire. Experience in conducting and leading rehearsals, as well as language proficiency, are required. The Choir Master needs to be highly skilled in piano and vocal techniques. He or she also needs to be well acquainted with the digitization of scores and digital streaming.
In order to be successful, the Chorus Master will also be a competent leader with many years of leadership experience. Additional qualifications include knowledge of staging and acoustics from an artistic and health and safety perspective, as well as experience in planning and knowledge about stagecraft.
Other
The contract is based on a 1 year substitute position with the possibility of extension, preferably starting on 1 August 2025. The selection process will consist of interviews and in-person rehearsal auditions.
