Assistant Conductor : Dayton Philharmonic

The DPAA announces an opening for the position of Assistant Conductor starting in the 2026-2027 season. Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the Assistant Conductor joins an artistic leadership team that includes Dayton Philharmonic Music & Artistic Director Keitaro Harada, Dayton Opera Artistic Director Kathleen Clawson, and Dayton Ballet Artistic Director Brandon Ragland. The Assistant Conductor will assist the Music Director by undertaking three core duties: acting as Cover Conductor for all orchestra services; lead learning and community engagement concerts; and guest conducting the Youth Orchestra Family Concert. This role requires daily collaboration with the Vice President for Learning & Community Engagement to further the DPAA's mission.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Conducting & Covering: Serve as the primary cover conductor and emergency substitute for the Music Director and guest conductors. Conduct and host programs as assigned across all genres (Ballet, Opera, Classical, Pops, Film, and Learning).

Artistic Support: Attend all Dayton Philharmonic rehearsals and concerts to provide general assistance and artistic feedback regarding balance, intonation, and dynamics. Oversee artistic details for radio broadcasts in coordination with the recording team.

Learning & Programming: Collaborate with the Vice President for Learning & Community Engagement and the Artistic Planning team to support the development and execution of programming for Learning and Community Engagement concerts.

Community Engagement: Represent the DPAA at donor events, public speaking engagements, and on community committees to support audience development and outreach goals.

Administrative & Other: Participate in auditions as an auditor, explore collaborative opportunities with the University of Dayton, and perform other duties as assigned by the Artistic Directors or Chief of Staff.
