Settle Orchestra
Orchestra Leader
Settle Orchestra is seeking an accomplished violinist to become our new Orchestra Leader from September 2027, helping to shape the next chapter of a thriving and ambitious community orchestra in the Yorkshire Dales.
The Leader plays a central role in the musical life of the orchestra, leading rehearsals and performances, working closely with our conductors on repertoire and interpretation, supporting the development of the string sections and helping inspire musicians across a broad range of ages and experience.
The orchestra rehearses on Friday evenings in Settle, typically ten rehearsals per term, and performs three concert programmes each year in Settle and Skipton, in November, March and June.
We are looking for a violinist with a strong musical background and orchestral experience, excellent communication and collaborative skills, and an encouraging approach to working with a mixed-ability community orchestra. Previous leadership experience is desirable but not essential.
This is a paid position, with fees agreed according to experience.
Start: September 2027
Location: Settle and Skipton, North Yorkshire
Applications: CV and covering letter to Charlie Dobson, Chair, at charles_snaygill@yahoo.co.uk
Application deadline: 31 October 2026
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview and audition, including an own-choice solo and orchestral excerpt.
Could you be our next Leader? We would love to hear from musicians excited by the opportunity to combine high-quality music-making with the welcoming, collaborative spirit of a community orchestra.
