Double Bass - section position

One IMMEDIATE opening for double bass. Full-time position for maternity coverage, potential for ongoing full-time tenured position. Must be an EU citizen or have legal permission to work freely in Bulgaria. Applications will be assessed on a rolling basis, and first qualified candidates will be asked to trial with the orchestra as soon as possible. Flights will be covered by VSO within Europe. Please plan initially for October-December 2024, with possibility to extend.

The Vratsa Symphony Orchestra, located in picturesque and mountainous Vratsa, Bulgaria is a European (EU) state-funded orchestras. The musicians hail from over 16 different countries and foster a supportive and international environment for both national and international applicants. Concerts include frequent collaboration with international classical soloists and national Bulgarian crossover stars. Rehearsals are conducted in Bulgarian and English. Season starts in February and continues until December. January is all-orchestra vacation. With a very low cost of living Vratsa is a peaceful and safe place to live for musicians. It is located close to the capital of Sofia, with very low-cost daily train/bus/auto schedules.

Multi-occupant apartments are offered by the orchestra for a fee. Full medical and pension accumulation is covered. All touring offers additional income.

1. Unedited video recording of you performing a solo piece of your choice (2-5 minutes)
2. Unedited video recording of 2-5 orchestral excerpts of your choice from any standard audition repertoire
3. A one-page CV

Stage 2: Candidates will be invited to a Zoom interview
Stage 3: Candidates will be invited to Vratsa for a trial, or directly invited for entire duration of maternity coverage
