Head of Harp

Founded in 1822, the Royal Academy of Music has a distinguished history and a reputation as one of the world’s leading conservatoires. We are seeking to appoint a new Head of Harp to succeed the distinguished harpist Catrin Finch in September 2026. The successful applicant should have the vision and ability to undertake the leading role in sustaining and developing the outstanding educational and artistic successes of the department.

You will be a musician of the highest calibre, with an outstanding reputation as a performer and teacher and have a high profile within the music industry. In addition, you will have the potential for charismatic leadership, working closely with the department’s team of world-class musicians and teachers to develop the educational experience of students. You will also work closely with the Deputy Principal and other heads of departments to enhance the artistic and educational work of the Academy in solo, orchestral and chamber music performance.

You will also be an effective advocate externally for the department and the Academy within both the music profession and the music education sector.

A competitive salary and benefits package will be offered which will be at a level commensurate with the experience of the successful candidate and the management, strategic accountabilities and responsibilities of this role, and will be discussed at interview.
