English Professor / English applied to music Professor

The Reina Sofía School of Music is opening a call to expand its team of specialist teachers, in the modules belonging to the Degree in Higher Artistic Education in Music: on the one hand, the optional subject of English, of 4 ECTS; and on the other hand, the optional subject of English applied to Music, of 4 ECTS.

Main Functions of the Teacher:

- Design the academic guide for the subject module, with the collaboration and supervision of the Head of Studies,

- Teach group face-to-face classes, of approximately 54 hours of class per year for each level, between September and June, establishing a logical sequencing for the acquisition of skills and competencies that provide students with the necessary tools to master the content of the subject. The subject of English can offer up to three different levels: Basic, intermediate and advanced English, approaching the knowledge equivalent to a level of B2 in the European framework. The subject of English applied to music offers a single level of class.

- To design and adapt activities and teaching materials aimed at the integrated development of the different communicative skills – oral comprehension and expression, reading comprehension and written expression – taking into account the different levels of linguistic competence of the students and favouring a progression towards autonomy in the use of English.

- To develop communicative competence in English in academic and professional situations in the musical field, working especially on oral interaction, the presentation and communication of artistic projects, participation in rehearsals and master classes, as well as the comprehension and production of texts related to the interpretation, pedagogy and professional activity of the musician.

- To facilitate the acquisition of the linguistic skills necessary for the international projection of students, with special attention to the communicative situations typical of a high-performance musical training environment – auditions, competitions, festivals, interviews, international collaborations and academic and professional mobility – promoting an accurate, fluent and appropriate use of English as a language of artistic communication.

- To promote and perfect the writing and English language about the musical phenomenon: concert criticism, review of specialized materials and books, essays.

- To encourage interdisciplinary thinking, seeking to erase the self-limitations of the traditional classical music curriculum, relying on materials and content related to other non-Western music and cultural manifestations, popular or ethnographic.

- To support students' critical reflection on their role as artists and creators in the international music community and in society as a whole.

- Provide constructive feedback and evaluations (quarterly) of student work in class.

- To evaluate the progress and work of students on an ongoing basis, through the application of the evaluation instruments of the academic guide in force.

- Carry out extraordinary evaluations if necessary and in accordance with the academic guidelines in force.

- Take record of attendance at class sessions.

- Coordination with the head of studies for the monitoring and evaluation of the students' progress.

- Coordination with the head of studies in order to achieve annual educational objectives, and the quality control of the teaching/learning processes.

- Sign official grading reports at the end of the course.

Conditions of collaboration:
