The Hallé is looking for exceptional viola players to fill 2 tutti positions within the section.
Candidates should have degree level training or similar and ideally have demonstrable experience of performing at a professional level. Candidates in the early stages of their careers and still studying at a recognised conservatoire or music course, will also be considered and are encouraged to apply.

The Hallé performs a huge range of music; from Mahler to Top Gun Maverick and everything in between. The orchestra has recently appointed Kahchun Wong as its principal conductor and Thomas Adés as principal guest and associate composer and Steve Bell as the orchestra’s pops director. As well as performing at the Bridgewater Hall and other world class venues,the role offers candidates opportunities to perform in the orchestra’s chamber series and relaxed concert initiative, both held at our purpose-built rehearsal space, Hallé St Peter’s.
Further opportunities to work in education and outreach are available through Hallé Connect.These include mentoring students on the professional experience scheme and the advanced orchestral string placement scheme run in collaboration with the RNCM. There are several grassroots education and outreach programmes, spanning a wide range of ages; from our early years ‘Adopt a Player’ project through to working with elderly dementia sufferers in care settings.
