Opera Conducting Masterclass - Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia

Ideal for experienced, as well as conductors new to opera conducting, Gioachino Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia overflows with inspired melodies, accompaniments and scoring. The difficulties found in accompanied recitatives are absent through the use of the harpsichord in secco recitatives, where the player and vocal soloists rely on each other in artful presentation to advance the plot. The opera will be rehearsed and performed in a span of only four days, which reflects the professional reality encountered in so-called repertoire houses. Conductors are coached by two widely experienced operatic and orchestra conductors, through a pedagogy of comment before and after the students' work on the podium. This allows masterclass conductors to establish authority and ideas on their own without interruption. Conductors work the professional orchestra, choir and soloists of State Opera Stara Zagora/Bulgaria in orchestra, choir, cast, Italiana, and dress rehearsals besides the performance.
