Required Audition Repertoire

1. First Round – Video submission (See Appendix I for guidelines)

1) One movement of a concerto (violins, woodwinds and horns must choose first movement of Mozart’s works, no cadenza required).

2) Three contrasting orchestral excerpts of the applicant’s choice (See Appendix II for more details).

2. Second Round – Live Audition, including:

1) Two solo pieces of the applicant’s choice, including:

a) One piece from Classical or Baroque period (violins, woodwinds and horns must choose one of Mozart’s works).

b) One piece from Romantic period.

² Tuba player may choose any two pieces for the second round.

2) Sight Reading of orchestral excerpts

2. Provide copies of your highest education certificate and awards certificate if any. Overseas students shall provide education certificate authorized by Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange.

Time and place for second round live audition

The live audition is estimated to take place in mid January 2027, applicants with successful videos will be notified by email no later than 20 December, 2026. The audition will take place at Shanghai Symphony Orchestra. Applicants are responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses.

Notice

Due to visa requirements, foreign applicants must have more than 2 years of related work experience and be able to provide reference letters detailing their work experience before accepting any position with SSO.
