A fine cello bow by England's most important bow maker, James Tubbs. Mounted in Silver with a length of 715mm, and a weight of 82.5g
The bow is stamped “J. Tubbs” on the handle, and is from his first-period in London c.1870
Clean making especially with the head shaping, classic silverwork, and a great choice of pernambuco. The bow has a great balance and feel in the hand – many cellists will enjoy this!
The head is in excellent condition. The handle and frog are in a good restored condition, and the bow is ensured to be suitable for professional playing. The silver faceplate and frog are original. The adjuster (or just the internal screw) is suspected be later, so we are pricing it to be very safe!
This bow is being sold below insurance estimate (£10-12,000), and is a great candidate for any player.
