Please email a PDF of your resume to auditions@wtxs.org although your application will not be complete until we also receive a deposit check. Deposit Checks should be made out to the West Texas Symphony, with “Oboe Audition” in the memo line. Checks will be returned at the audition or shredded if you cancel prior to October 17th, 2025. Pay Scale: $92.50 per service plus a $200 travel stipend per concert cycle if you live outside the Midland-Odessa area. Home-stay/Hotel housing is also available to those living outside the area.
Description: This position includes serving as a section oboe player for the West Texas Symphony. The winning candidates will be offered a service agreement minimally including the Masterworks series with the potential for other series utilizing fewer musicians. The first season is probationary with subsequent possibility for more permanence. Based upon the winning candidate’s availability, the position will commence in the 2025-2026 Season, starting in February 2026.
Led by Music Director Gary Lewis, the orchestra rehearses and performs in the acclaimed Wagner-Noël Performing Arts Center. Since opening in 2011, this 1800-seat concert hall has gained national recognition for its acoustics and grandeur. Each season features a minimum of four Masterworks programs, four Pops & Family concerts, and an annual cycle of the Nutcracker with the Midland Festival Ballet. Additional series include orchestral education programs alongside other potential collaborations. A typical season will hold around 40 services.
