Co-Principal Cello

The Philharmonia is seeking highly qualified candidates for the position of Co-Principal Cello.

The Philharmonia is a world-class symphony orchestra for the 21st century, led by Principal Conductor Santtu-Matias Rouvali and our titled conductors, Marin Alsop & Esa-Pekka Salonen. Based in London at Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall, leading a busy international touring schedule and resident in cities and at festivals across the UK as well as streaming online, the Philharmonia creates thrilling performances for a global audience.

The Panel may request candidates to submit a video in advance of an in-person audition. These candidates will be notified by 12 February and will have until 26 February to submit the video.

Video submission requirements:
- Exposition of Haydn D major without piano (no cadenza)
- Digital audition excerpts (provided)

In-person auditions will be held at the Philharmonia Offices, 6 Chancel Street, London, on 8 and 10 April 2026. Upon request, video auditions can be offered as substitute for applicants who for financial, geographical, or accessibility reasons cannot attend an audition in the UK during these dates.

Requirements:
- Haydn D major concerto, 1st movement, no cadenza
- Schumann or Dvorak concerto, 1st movement
- Orchestral excerpts (provided)

Auditions will not be screened. Accompanist will be provided.
