Playing around 120 concerts, opera- and ballet-performances plus approximately 180 outreach activities per year, Copenhagen Phil is one of the busiest and versatile, orchestras in Denmark.

Copenhagen Phil was founded in 1843 in Tivoli and is a modern symphony orchestra comprising about 65 musicians. During the winter season the orchestra performs in the concerthall of the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Frederiksberg (the former DR Radio House) as well as cities on the entire island of Zealand and Lolland/Falster. In the summer season the orchestra continues to perform in Tivoli throughout as 'Tivoli Copenhagen Phil'.

It is very important for Copenhagen Phil to anchor music in both traditional and unconventional settings, as well as being innovative and create activities for audiences of all ages. Copenhagen Phil is committed to developing new auditory and visual expressions for a broad audience, bringing new perspectives to the symphony orchestra as an innovative cultural institution. In addition to classical concerts at the highest level with renowned conductor and soloist names, Copenhagen Phil also offers popular 60-minute concerts where rhythmic musicians join the classical orchestra, Open Orchestra concerts where the audiences are invited to walk around a live orchestra as it plays, as well as concert performances called Melodrama, where a new and broad audience can experience a dramatized concert with actors/singers who tell the story of the original classical masterpiece, complemented by both newly composed music and a spectacular video scenography.

Copenhagen Phil has had several successful collaborations with other significant cultural institutions in Denmark, including Østre Gasværk Theatre, Danish Dance Theatre and Teater Republique, and often engages in collaborations with the Royal Danish Opera, the Royal Danish Theatre, CPH Opera Festival, among others.

The orchestra's chief conductor is the German Christoph Gedschold. The honorary guest conductor is the Danish conductor, Thomas Dausgaard.
