Double Bass:

Italian bass c. 1680

Price: £80,000
It is time to sell my beautiful Italian bass, which has been with me throughout my playing life. This old Italian bass was made in 1680 and is a small full size bass. It has plenty of character, old knocks and cracks, but all repaired and in good working order. The ribs are pear wood, so it is quite heavy. It has a lovely sonorous sound, and has been played as part of an orchestral bass section, in West End shows, recording studios, and also a tango quintet for many years. It is a Testore style bass, with a flat back. (It is not a Testore, but looks like one.) It would make a wonderful chamber bass, but equally happy in a big section.
Measurements: stop 101cms (39 ¾ ins)
Other measurements in the picture below.
It comes with a bespoke fitted case.
I live in central London. Message me if you are interested.
Certification: I bought this from another London player about 30 years ago, so don't have paperwork for the sale, but I do have this valuation by Roger Dawson, done in 2013. (see below)
