About musicalchairs

History

October 2000 - musicalchairs is founded by clarinettist John Bradbury in Manchester UK. Classical music jobs are listed according to instrument, and available 24/365. Musicians no longer have to seek out various periodicals, wading through pages of adverts. Managers can publish and amend advert details at any time, without worrying about deadlines or irreversible typos! Our key market - the best young musicians leaving Conservatoires and seeking employment.

2001 - Musicalchairs introduces singing jobs and administration posts.

2002 - Musicalchairs launches a separate section for US, Canadian and Latin American orchestras.

2003 - Managers are given special site access, with a personal page to view and adjust their listings.

2004 - A survey by one British orchestra finds that over 75% of applicants for a Violin job applied via musicalchairs and only 12% via the Saturday Telegraph.

2005 - Significant investment in new servers and databanks leads to an increase in speed and reliability.

2006 - Huge increase in visitor numbers - now 6,000 a day. Fully recognised in conservatoires world-wide.

2007 - Communication with our clients is improved with manned phone lines and attendance at trade fairs. More staff are recruited.

2008 - In order to meet demand, teaching posts are added and immediately receive very high traffic. In addition, administration positions are given a separate section and divided into specialized categories.

2009 - The most widely read classical music jobs publication in the world, with over 10,000 visitors a day, continues to evolve. March sees the beginning of the development of a new site. Beta testing continues throughout the year.

February 2010 - The new site is launched. The new platform offers more powerful functionality for musicians and managers. News stories and RSS feeds are added. Now outperforming all rival websites and publications, October marks our 10th birthday!

July 2020 - Application Tracking System is launched.  The musicalchairs Application Tracking System (ATS) reduces paperwork and facilitates the pre-selection of candidates.  ATS also handles in-line video rounds, both pre-selection and Round One if required. There is no need to collect countless private YouTube links, or big file transfers on Dropbox - everything is processed on our servers and the videos are played direct on our site. There is no extra charge for this service. Here is a 2-minute video about ATS:
