Herbert von Karajan Young Conductors Award

Young conductors over 21 and under 35 years of age can apply online for the prestigious award. The application deadline is 13 January 2025.
Up to eight semi-finalists will be invited to come to Salzburg in spring of 2025 for the non-public “Rehearsal Day”, where they have to demonstrate their skills conducting the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg and the contemporary music ensemble œnm.
Three finalists will each conduct a concert with the Camerata Salzburg during the “Award Concert Weekend” in the official programme of the Salzburg Festival 2025.
Following the last concert, the jury will select the winner of the Herbert von Karajan Young Conductors Award, endowed with € 15,000.-- prize money and an invitation to conduct the “Award Winner’s Concert” during the Salzburg Festival 2026.
The Award is an initiative of the Salzburg Festival in cooperation with the Eliette and Herbert von Karajan Institute, supported by ROLEX.
