Position: Viola Cadet position
The KZN Philharmonic Orchestra is a full-time professional orchestra based in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Previous orchestral experience is essential. The salary package includes six weeks of paid leave, medical benefits, and settling-in assistance.
An orchestral Cadet position (formerly known as Fellowship position) is a student position aimed at helping promising musicians transition into full-time employment as professional musicians.
It includes significant playing opportunity in the orchestra as tutti player, as well as weekly lessons with a suitably qualified teacher. In addition to semesterly assessments, the candidate is encouraged to apply for vacant positions as and when they are confident to do so.
Cadet positions are offered for no more than three years consecutively and are open to South African citizens or international candidates who have a South African general work visa.
The application process is two-fold. First, applicants must send a detailed CV, ID copy and video recording of any standard concerto plus candenza to auditions@kznphil.org.za. The deadline for receipt of this material is 2 December 2024. Such recording may be uploaded to Youtube, Google Drive, Dropbox, or similar.
We will then invite selected candidates to the second part of the application, which will be live auditions, to be held in Durban on 9 December 2024. For this, candidates need to prepare the material listed below.
