The following is a description from the appraisal of the violin from A440 Violin Shop in Chicago, USA in 2010 where the violin was purchased.
APPRAISAL
The violin in the possession of --------- Chicago, IL is, in our opinion, of German origin circa 1900. This violin does not bear a maker's label. An
inventory label from our shop identifies this violin as # 2574.
The top plate is constructed of two pieces of spruce. The bass side of the plate has very narrow grain througout, and the treble side has a narrow grain the widens gradually toward the flanks. The two-piece back plate is of highly figured maple, with markings slanting downward slightly from the center joint. The ribs and scroll are made of a similarly figured material. Varnish is medium brown over yellow ground. This instrument is in very good restored condition, and has an insurance value of $2,500.00 at this recorded date (2010).
